ILLEFECT's Bio
Alzy Esperanza, better known to the DJing world as ILLEFECT, a San Francisco native, earned his stripes at a very young age. Aggressively polishing up his skills, he consistently practices at home when he is not out spinning at a local nightclub or event. Although he continues to strive towards mastering his craft, I wouldnt categorize him as just another DJ. His many years of experience has already allowed him to gain the fundamentals of what it takes to be a true disc jockey.
Since childhood, ILLEFECT was always surrounded by music and musicians. His grandfather played the saxophone, his father was an aspiring singer, and his older sister, Audrey Inkfat Esperanza, was an emcee and an active participant in many hip hop events in the Bay Area. ILLEFECT joined his friend, DJ Marcus Lee, in doing small mobile gigs around the Bay Area. Assisting Marcus with his gigs led ILLEFECT to begin mixing in 1999. Soon after came the establishment of Turntable Holix Entertainment, a mobile DJ group consisting of DJ Marcus Lee, ILLEFECT, and a few other DJs.
Inkfat then introduced ILLEFECT to his first DJ battle at the infamous Zebra Records in San Franciscos lower Haight. He was immediately inspired by the art of turntablism. At any given time, you could catch him watching scratch videos, attending hip-hop functions, and digging for vinyl. Some crews that provided ILLEFECT with great inspiration included Supernatural Turntable Artists, The Fingerbangerz, Action Figures, 5th Platoon, Invisible Skratch Piklz, Beat Junkies, The Allies, and the X-Ecutioners, to name a few. They became the platform for his motivation to learn how to scratch and beat juggle.
In 2008, he then became an essential member of a local emcee collective, Kreative Resource. Members K-6, Speakfree, Ster Crazy, and The IMF welcomed ILLEFECT as their DJ. Around the same time, a promotional group called Osiris, now known as Mixtape Marketing, hired him for a one-night event. Pleased with his performance, Osiris opened up new opportunities for him to work with other promoters as a DJ for various events at venues such as Poleng Lounge, Milk Bar Lounge, Element Lounge, Azul Lounge, 111 Minna Gallery, Horizon, Sutra, Atmosphere, Mercury Lounge, Sloane, Skylark, Manor West, Mighty SF, Club 6, Eve Lounge, Rockit Room, Lot 46, Risque Lounge, Otis Lounge, and many more.
In the fall of 2010, the All Mighty Family, a bay area collective that consist of DJs, graphic designers, emcees, and creative minds, extended their resources to include ILLEFECT. He is currently active and involved in all events thrown and hosted by the AMF. Later that same year, he was then asked and was honored to be apart of STA (Supernatural Turntable Artist). Only in his mid 20s, ILLEFECT has already been blessed to meet and learn from many talented and amazing people. His journey goes on as he continues to refine his skills, share and trade knowledge with fellow DJs, and deliver and perform only at his best for anyone with open ears.
